“Quattro giorni fa ero appena rientrata dal New York, mi stavo riprendendo dal jet lag quando ha squillato il telefono e mi è arrivata la proposta: sono onorata che il direttore dell’Opera di Vienna abbia scelto me, e lo ringrazio”: non è sbagliato considerare ‘da record’ il talento di Speranza Scappucci, giovane e richiestissima direttrice d’orchestra italiana, dal momento che il prossimo 23 febbraio sarà lei la prima donna nella storia a dirigere l’orchestra di uno degli eventi mondani più glamour, romantici e principeschi dell’anno, il Ballo dell’Opera di Vienna, lo storico Wiener Opernball, l’appuntamento principale del carnevale viennese. BIOGRAPHY. Nominated by Musical America “New Artist of the month” in November 2014 and just recently awarded the prestigious “Margherita Hack 2015 award” for Female excellency for her rapid growing international career, Italian born conductor Speranza Scappucci recently made a successful New York debut acclaimed by public and critics with Rossini´s Il Turco in Italia at the Juilliard School/Lincoln Center. She is considered one of the most interesting conductors on the international scene.

Upcoming engagements include LA TRAVIATA and LA CENERENTOLA at the Vienna State Opera, new production of COSÌ FAN TUTTE at the Opera di Roma and Verdi´s JERUSALEM at the Opera Liege, NORMA at Latvian National Opera in Riga, LA FILLE DU REGIMENT at Opernhaus Zürich and the debut with IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at the Canadian Opera in Toronto. In addition, she will conduct symphonic concerts with the Orchestra Toscanini in Parma and Orchestra Teatro LiricoCagliari as well as Gala Concerts at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden before she will return to the Vienna State Opera to conduct DON PASQUALE.

Recently she conducted IL TURCO IN ITALIA at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, concert performances of LA SONNAMBULA at Lincoln Center in a MET Lindemann/Juilliard School production and LA BOHEME at the Los Angeles Opera. She gave her debut at Concertgebouw Amsterdam when she conducted a concert with the Radio Filharmonisch Orchestra. Besides that she conducted LA CENERENTOLA at the Washington Opera and Teatro Regio Torino, a new production of LA FILLE DU REGIMENT at Santa Fé Opera, Pergolesi’s STABAT MATER with the Orchestra Regionale della Toscana in Florence and a concert with the South Denmark Philharmonic. She conducted DON GIOVANNI at Finnish National Opera, NORMA at Teatro Sao Carlos Lisbon, LA TRAVIATA at the Macerata Opera Festival 2014, Rossini´s L´EQUICOVO STRAVAGANTE in her Spanish debut at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao and a symphonic concert including Rossini´s STABAT MATER with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

In November 2013 her first CD album was released on Warner Classics, Mozart arias with Latvian star soprano Marina Rebeka and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and 2016 the CD album of the albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu for Opus Arte with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Speranza Scappucci, a brilliant pianist, is a graduate of the Juilliard School and the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome. She has worked as repetiteur/Assistant Conductor in several prestigious international houses: the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera New York, Chicago Lyric Opera, Teatro dell´Opera di Roma, Salzburg Festival, Salzburg Whitsun Festival, the Glyndebourne Festival, Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera and New York City Opera.
